Biography
Mr. Magee is a Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer who has been in private practice for over two decades. Board Certification through the Texas Board of Legal Specialization is the pinnacle of professional achievement only granted to attorneys that have many years of trial experience, references from lawyers and judges, and who pass a grueling day-long test on state and federal criminal law. Only 1% of all Texas attorneys are certified in criminal law, as a result.
Prior to coming to the Austin area, Mr. Magee worked in several downtown Dallas law firms. He has been involved in litigation for his entire legal career. He has been practicing criminal law exclusively for 15 years. He represents defendants in state and federal court - ranging from misdemeanors up to capital murder. Much of his work has been high-profile cases requiring the skills of an experienced and thorough trial lawyer. He currently is approved as trial counsel in death penalty cases by the Third Administrative Judicial Region of Texas.
While in law school at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now known as the Texas A&M University School of Law) in Ft. Worth, Texas, Mr. Magee was a member of the law review, served as a research assistant, and graduated in the top 15% of his law school class. During his studies, he was a law clerk at a firm representing those injuried by other's negligence.
Mr. Magee is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is admitted in the federal courts, including the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas and the United States Supreme Court. He also is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. He is the former President of the Williamson County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.
In addition to his Juris Doctor degree, Mr. Magee also holds a Master of Public Affairs and Bachelor of Science in Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Mr. Magee has also served in city government, as Assistant to the City Manager and City Manager, and as an adjunct lecturer in Politics and Government at several Texas universities and colleges.
