Biography
I am a Patent and Intellectual Property Attorney, and hold an Intellectual Property concentration designation from Texas A&M School of Law. In addition, I have a Master’s of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Baylor and a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University at Shreveport. I'm a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and the National Biological Honor Society Beta Beta Beta. I'm also an amateur radio operator, my call sign is KF5SEU.
As a young child, I enjoyed taking apart the household electronic and putting them back together, along with borrowing my older sister’s chemistry sets and doing experiments. my idea of a prank when I was young differed from most. I enjoyed going to computer stores and programing short looping programs that usually consisted of color changing balls bouncing across the computer monitor and then watching the confused staff.
After serving in the Army as a legal specialist, I worked at Ericsson, the telecommunications equipment and services company. There I was trained in-house as a switch engineer working on both TDMA and GSM cellular systems. Before leaving Ericsson I was the product manager for 3rd party software and hardware. Initially I went back to school with the idea of becoming a pharmacist, but I quickly fell in love with my science classes, especially Microbiology and Organic Chemistry. After doing a summer National Science Foundation internship at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in Dr. Jo Handelsman’s lab looking for antibiotic resistance in the resident microbiota of the gypsy moth midgut, I decided that I wanted to go to graduate school. I selected Baylor because I was impressed with the work being done at the Baylor Research Institute, Institute of Metabolic Diseases, particularly the work being done in the Molecular Diagnostic department on heart disease. While working on my degree I was offered a position with a biotech start-up company.
The biotech start-up brought me into the world of nano-technology and I learned about semi-conductor manufacturing, nano-technology, hybrid devices (electronic and biological), and device testing. It was while working with the nano biotech company that I decided that I should once again enter the legal field and go to law school to become a patent attorney.
