Biography
Shilpa Gokare graduated with her law degree from the Georgia State University College of Law. Her paper titled "Are Nursing Homes Nursing the Needs of the Indian American Immigrants? (With a Special Focus on Hindu Immigrants)." received the second place in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) national student legal writing competition and was published in the June 2006 NAELA student journal. Her practice is in the area of Elder Law, Wills, Trusts and Estate Planning and Business/Family Immigration. At GSU, she has completed an externship with the Senior Citizens Law Project of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. Shilpa obtained her Master's degree in Social Work with a major in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Bombay, India and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Sophia College of Bombay University, India. Prior to attending law school, Shilpa served as a Case Manager at AID Atlanta and was responsible for initiating the Women's Wellness Day program. She has also worked as a Counselor in a drug rehabilitation center and facilitated individual, group and family counseling sessions.
