Biography
With 28 years of experience handling nearly every kind of civil and criminal appeal, I know what it takes to win. I began writing appeals in 1985 as a student intern with the Wisconsin Attorney General's Office, Criminal Appeals Division, and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison Law school in 1987 in the top 10% of my class. From 1987 until 1994 I maintained a civil and criminal litigation practice with a heavy emphasis on appeals. Since 1996 my practice has been exclusively appellate. I am certified with the Wisconsin State Public defender for Levels 1, 2 and 3 (all criminal cases) and have been, at one time or another, certified for Chapters 48 and 938 (Juvenile); Chapters 51 & 55 (Mental Health, Guardianship & Protective Placement); and Termination of Parental Rights. I served on the Board of the Appellate Practice Section of the State Bar of Wisconsin for five years (2004-2008).
My services are offered on a state-wide basis to clients directly and trial lawyers on a consulting basis. I also work with trial counsel to preserve issues for appeal by assisting with substantive motions, summary judgments, briefs, research and writing.
