Biography
Steven Fincher is the Senior Partner of Fincher Denmark & Williams LLC. His primary areas are local government general counsel, public finance, eminent domain, land use and planning, and employment law. He has watched and advised multiple governing bodies for thirty years. He has been the appointed Attorney (General Counsel) for eleven cities and three other local governmental entities in Fulton, Clayton, Fayette, and Henry Counties. Because he has seen so much, he has relevant past experience and immediately useful insight into almost any issue that may arise. This experience enables him to be useful to the client from the first phone call you place.
Fincher obtained his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1980. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia in 1977.
As a litigator, Fincher has handled scores of cases, including several precedent-setting ones. Three that impacted our community were: Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Inc. v. Clayton County, where Fincher successfully defended county zoning ordinances; City of College Park v. Eastern Airlines, Inc, where he recovered $1,000,000 from Atlanta for College Park; and World Famous Dudley’s Food & Spirits v. City of College Park, where he effectively removed adult clubs from College Park.
Fincher has been a leader in the local Bar and has frequently lectured on various issues involving local governments. Topics included civil service, personnel issues, and sign ordinances.
Fincher is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (Local Government and College and School Law sections), the City Attorney Section of the Georgia Municipal Association, and the Atlanta Bar Association. In 2009, he served on the Executive Committee of the Clayton County Education SPLOST. He also serves as the pro bono attorney for the Clayton County Family Care and serves on the Clayton State University Foundation Board of Trustees.
