Biography
Susan Nettles Han is a litigator with years of experience in both federal and state courts. Since 2006, she has practiced civil litigation, with a focus in the areas of employment law and real property litigation. She believes that it is incredibly important to keep the client informed and she seeks to obtain good results both in and out of court in an efficient manner. Susan also is a trained and registered mediator for civil litigation matters.
Susan has particular experience in labor and employment litigation, real property litigation, and trust and estate litigation. In her real estate practice, she represents commercial and private property owners, banks, title insurers, and insureds in real estate and real property litigation involving reformation, encroachment, easement, adverse possession, boundary, quiet title, and trespass disputes. In her employment practice, she represents employers and individuals in litigation and appeals. She has experience in matters arising out of numerous federal and state laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; The Civil Rights Act of 1991; 42 U.S.C. §§ 1981, 1983, 1985; The Americans with Disabilities Act; The Family Medical Leave Act; the Fair Labor Standards Act; The Age Discrimination in Employment Act; the Alabama Age Discrimination in Employment Act; the Alabama Workers’ Compensation Act and State-law torts arising out of the employment relationship. In probate court, Susan has helped resolve trusts and estate matters. Susan also is a trained and registered mediator for civil litigation matters.
Susan’s previous experience includes working in the Labor & Employment Section and the Litigation Section at Balch & Bingham, LLP (from September 2006 through July 2016). Susan received her B.A. from McGill University in 1996, her M.M. from the University of Texas at Austin, and her Juris Doctorate from Cumberland School of Law in 2006.
Susan has served as Chair of the Women Lawyers Section of the Birmingham Bar Association and on the Birmingham Bar Executive Committee. Susan is a current member of the Solo/Small Firm Section Board, the Alabama State Bar Committee regarding the unauthorized practice of law, and the Alabama State Bar Health and Wellness Task Force. Susan also has served as member of the Board at the Virginia Samford Theatre since 2007 and she is currently a member of the VST Executive Committee. Susan loves running, yoga, theatre, and music.
