Biography
I served in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps for 20 years. I was the first U.S. Army JAG officer to serve as a prosecutor, defense counsel, Special Victims Counsel, government appellate counsel, and Law Instructor. I am a passionate, aggressive advocate who gets extraordinary results for my clients. I fight for justice! I fight for you!

I was born and raised in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. In 1992, I graduated from the University of Wisconsin—La Crosse with honors, earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science with a minor in Business Administration. I earned my law degree from Marquette University Law School in 1996, and accepted a direct commission into the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps. I served at military installations around the country, including Fort Bliss and Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Fort Carson, Colorado; and Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I served in the National Capital Region for several years, including an assignment at the Pentagon. I also served overseas in South Korea near the DMZ, and deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In Afghanistan I served as the command's first Chief of Military Justice. In 2005, I earned a Master of Laws degree in criminal law from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center & School in Charlottesville, Virginia.
I successfully litigated hundreds of criminal cases at both the trial and appellate levels, including several high-profile cases involving Abu Ghraib, drill sergeant sexual misconduct, and child sexual assault by a noncommissioned officer featured in Black Hawk Down. You can read about some of my cases in my profile. During my Afghanistan deployment, I served key roles as a legal advisor to the command and to an investigating officer in the case featured in the Rolling Stone article, “Another Runaway General,” in which two wayward field grade officers falsely accused Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell IV of reprisal and ordering “psychological operations” on U.S. senators and other dignitaries. My legal acumen resulted in the resolution of this high-profile case in favor of the command at the U.S. Army, U.S. Department of Defense, and Congressional levels. My JAG career culminated with my assignment to the U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS), where I taught 500 hours of law in a joint environment to 3,400 active, reserve, National Guard, and civilian domestic and international students seeking to become law enforcement agents. I was rated as one of the best Law Instructors at USAMPS in 25 years. I honorably retired from the U.S. Army in 2016.

I represent the “gold standard” in military criminal justice, and expanded my expertise to defending college students accused of sexual misconduct under Title IX. I am a recognized expert in sexual assault litigation, particularly in cases alleging victim “incapacitation” due to alcohol consumption or mental disabilities. I am also a certified Instructor and Title IX Investigator, and a graduate of the Special Victims Capability Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where I received specialized training and instruction in investigating and litigating military sexual assault cases. I have litigated multiple appeals in the military, especially sexual assault cases. My passionate, but compassionate, representation of clients has resulted in exceptional results for many clients.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, playing piano, cooking, baking, and nurturing my flower, fruit, and herb gardens. Naturally, as a Wisconsin native, I am an avid “Cheesehead”—a euphemism for a Green Bay Packers fan. However, I am no ordinary “Cheesehead;” I am also an owner of the Green Bay Packers, the only publicly-owned franchise in the National Football League.
