Biography
“Maximizing recoveries is based on more than the law and the facts of the case, but also timing, strategy and intangibles.”
“Maximizing recoveries is based on more than the law and the facts of the case, but also timing, strategy and intangibles.”Tom King is all about attention to detail. In his banking and creditor’s rights practice, he has documented and closed many multi-million dollar deals throughout the Great Lakes region and beyond, providing workout and collection services, including bankruptcy counsel related to various types of loans and receivables. His experience and attention to detail have proven invaluable in terms of anticipating potential issues that enhance future recoveries or could surface at a future date. Although his practice is centered in the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, it also includes the Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
Tom also practices in the area of municipal and governmental law and his depth of experience is likewise impressive in that area, including representation of governmental units and all types of property owners and developers in zoning and land use matters, general governmental matters, intergovernmental agreements, municipal litigation, real and personal property tax matters, freedom of information act and open meeting matters, initiative and referendum, annexation and eminent domain matters, and a host of other governmental issues too numerous to mention.
A former City of Kalamazoo staff attorney, Tom joined Kreis Enderle in 1990 and was elected partner in 1995. He has litigated numerous cases in state and federal courts and has been a frequent speaker on bankruptcy topics, collection, lien perfection and governmental issues. He was also one of the primary attorneys involved in the planning and writing of “The Guide to Michigan Statutes and Limitations,” a book published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in conjunction with the Kalamazoo County Young Lawyers Association, was lead counsel in important freedom of information act litigation, and was a speaker at a National ABA conference on real and personal property tax laws and bankruptcy.
