Biography
Travis S. Prestwich is a personal injury and wrongful death attorney serving all of Oregon with his primary office in Salem. Mr. Prestwich is a partner at Swanson Lathen Prestwich, PC, and has over 20 years of experience. He handles matters involving automobile, motorcycle, trucking and pedestrian accidents, nursing home negligence, premises liability, product liability, wrongful death and other areas of catastrophic injury. He recognizes that these cases require experience and personal attention to bring about the best and most just outcome for his clients. Mr. Prestwich engages in alternative dispute resolution methods like mediation, settlement conferences and arbitration where possible to reduce the stress and expense for his clients.
In 1996, Mr. Prestwich graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public policy. He earned his law degree from Willamette University College of Law in 2000. He holds a license to practice law before all Oregon state courts and Oregon's Federal District Court. Over the course of his career, he has successfully resolved many complex injury cases through litigation or alternative dispute resolution. He is experienced with arbitration and mediation while remaining a skilled trial lawyer.
The recipient of various honors and awards for his legal accomplishments, Mr. Prestwich is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, invitation-only organizations comprised of attorneys who have recovered verdicts or settlements of $1M or more. In 2016, one of his cases was listed in “Oregon’s Top Verdicts,” and in 2018, he was included on the list of America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators. In 2020, Mr. Prestwich was invited to join the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), an invitation-only organization of the finest lawyers and judges who have earned great distinction in jury trials and who seek to preserve the right to jury trials in the United States.
Mr. Prestwich serves his legal community through committees and leadership positions. He is a former member of the Oregon State Bar's Board of Governors and a previous chair of the board’s Public Affairs Committee, and was president of his local bar association. A highlight of that service was his leadership in obtaining changes in Oregon law regarding cy pres, i.e. giving unclaimed monies in class action lawsuits to legal aid rather than refunding those monies to the corporate wrongdoer. Serving in his local community is important to him as well. He has spent many years as a youth sports coach (20+ years), church and youth service organizations, and on various community committees and boards.
He was raised in Utah and Arizona, but he considers himself an Oregonian, having lived her for nearly 30 years. His wife is from Salem and three of his four children were born in Salem as well. He enjoys spending time with his family and the various activities in which his children are involved.
