Charleston School of Law

The Charleston School of Law, an ABA-accredited law college, is nationally known for its student-centric culture. Our faculty and staff will prepare you for success in both the classroom and the legal profession. The Charleston School of Law is deeply rooted in tradition. Its precedent dates back to November 1825 when Charleston lawyers petitioned the South Carolina Legislature to issue a charter of incorporation for the "creation of regular Law Institutes in the City of Charleston" and the annexation of Law Libraries. The Legislature passed Act No. 2379 establishing "a Lecture-ship in the Law." The Charleston Forensic Club started offering lectures in February 1826. This was the beginning of the South's first legal school. The Charleston School of Law continues this legacy today. A number of prominent Charleston lawyers and judges began to work together in 2002 to create a new law school. This would be a community-centered institution that offers a superior educational program, both traditional and experiential. It will also have a collegial faculty with the best caliber. The school was licensed by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education in 2003 to start accepting students.
