What is Agricultural Law?
Agriculture law encompassesthe government’s activities in farming in addition to conventional contract topics like bailments, leasing, marketing and storage of products, special secured credit regulations involving agriculture credit, and challenges facing landowners and farming and livestock businesses. These are various activities, and there are federal and state laws that regulate such activities’ effects on farmers, farm workers, customers, or any other party and the environment.
Agriculture has also been touched with technology, and this also has some implications to intellectual property, trade, finance and credit as well as general commercial affairs. Some of the legal aspects of agriculture include preparing the soil, planting seeds, crops, crop reaping, gardening, horticulture or viniculture, apiculture (bee farming), dairying, poultry farming, control of pest and use of pesticides, meat production particularly in ranches, use of the environment and the law governing usage of natural resources.
What governs the agricultural industry?
There are many federal statutes that support, regulate, or provide provisions for the agriculture industry. For instance, the federal migrant and Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act gives such workers protection. Some of these laws offer monetary support to oil farmers while others support the development of farmers’ housing and any other requirements in the agricultural sector. There are also state laws on the production of agriculture and workforce.
Should I hire an agriculture attorney?
Today, farmers and ranchers are exposed to not only the statutes involving sales of goods and real estate but also various issues concerning water, ecology, finances, credits, and legal actions concerning government programs. Given the dynamic nature of this industry and the complexity of tax, growth management, water use, chemicals, and other laws affecting it, it is wise to seek the services of a lawyer in this field.
