What is aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family/date in Kaufman, Texas?

This was what my ex son-in-law was arrested on, yet he has not told me what has happened? He is living in New Jersey, although, of course, he was in Texas, where I am quite certain he has no family. It is the first time he has ever gotten arrested. How do you think a lighter sentence, or plea bargain, can be reached? His bond is $250,000 cash surety. Thank you.
