North Carolina Divorce and Separation Questions & Answers

I’m in need of hiring a lawyer who would help me with my divorce. I have a pretty huge house that I purchased prior to our marriage and I am in no way willing to let it go. My situation is complicated: I had a boyfriend with whom I had a child and I was one who worked and paid all the bills. He is here without papers from Guatemala and was very verbally abusive to me and my children. The man I met in the summer of 2021 kidnapped my son for two weeks and forced me to marry him and threatened to kill my son if I don’t. Then after marriage he falsely accused me of leaving my children alone, and got a restraining order against my back, without even informing me that it was issued. Now, I need a divorce, but my previous attorney was not good, he botched my case, and I had to go it alone during the final hearing. There are issues that need an attorney who has been in practice for quite a number of years so that I do not lose my house during the divorce.
